Principal Message regarding Cell Phone use at school Message regarding Cell Phone use at school
Starting on November 4, 2019, there is a new Ontario Ministry of Education directive regarding the use of cell phones and other mobile devices in schools. The purpose of this directive is to reduce the distractions in the classroom in order to improve student learning and success. It will be the expectation that student cell phones and other mobile devices will be off and away during school hours unless the classroom teacher has determined that the use of a cell phone or other mobile device during class time would be beneficial for student learning. We are asking that you speak with your child to further discuss this expectation so that there will a positive transition in regards to this new Ministry of Education directive. Killarney Beach's Use of Electronic Devices Policy remains the same. Devices are off and away during school hours unless directed and supervised by the classroom teacher. The first time students disregard the policy, their device will be taken to the office and can be picked up after school. The second time their device will be taken to the office and will remain there until a parent picks it up. The third time, their device will be taken to the office, parents will have to pick it up and the student will be suspended for one day.
